Is Kayne really more acclaimed than Hendrix?

I wouldn't have Kanye above the next three below him, mostly because they are universally loved while Kanye's stature has been in the mud for half a decade at this point with no appearance of coming back, while the rest of the criteria is fairly close. I'd probably have him just below Jay.

I don't see him below Jay, I'd give him influence and acclaim while (though that may be somewhat arguable) while popularity and cultural impact are close, and may also lean towards Kanye.

His discography definitely is, at least. Hendrix makes up for it somewhat in other areas though.

His reputation as a public figure is obviously much, much, more negative than the three below him but I don't think his music's reputation has actually been affected. If anything, as the new AM update suggests, his albums have actually continued to grow in acclaim over the years (All of his first 7 except for Yeezus + Kids See Ghosts moved up in the last update).

Thoughts on some of the placements where we differ a bit more significantly
- I figure Beyonce holds up against Nirvana in acclaim and is probably stronger than 2pac, both are more influential than her, while she is clearly more popular than both of them. I figure her longevity should give her the edge here.

- To justify my placement for Taylor and Drake let me compare them to Elton John and Whitney Houston, two artists who both also excel in popularity

Taylor/Drake vs Elton
Popularity: Close (if we exclude Taylor's country output)
Acclaim: Elton John close
Influence: Taylor/Drake

Taylor/Drake vs Houston
Popularity: Taylor/Drake
Acclaim: Taylor/Drake
Influence: Houston

- Here's how I see Kendrick comparing with Neil Young and R.E.M.
Acclaim: Kendrick
Popularity: Kendrick clearly
Influence: Young/R.E.M. clearly

- I see Rihanna as similar to AC/DC in terms of all three criteria while doing a bit better than Fleetwood Mac in popularity while doing a bit worse in acclaim
- Britney was highly influential on both the wave of teen pop in the late 1990s and most significantly the wave of electropop in the late 2000s. Obviously highly popular and even her acclaim has grown substantially over the years.

So here's what I'd suggest
1. The Beatles
2. Elvis Presley
3. James Brown
4. Bob Dylan
5. Michael Jackson
6. Madonna
7. Chuck Berry
8. The Rolling Stones
9. Stevie Wonder

14. Jimi Hendrix
15. Fats Domino

18. Marvin Gaye
19. Little Richard
20. Jay-Z
21. The Who
22. Sam Cooke
23. Pink Floyd
24. David Bowie
25. Eminem
26. U2
27. Run-D.M.C.
28. Beyonce
29. Nirvana
30. 2pac
31. The Supremes
32. Bruce Springsteen
33. Queen
34. Bob Marley & the Wailers
35. Buddy Holly & The Crickets

I think I'll take a break from working on this for a little bit, once we sort through this group, btw.

Looking over my 101-200 list and seeing this post, it occurred to me that it was probably inconsistent for me to have included The Carpenters in the top 200 but not ABBA. Now I would say that ABBA was at least as much a rock artist as the Carpenters.

I'd agree ABBA is at least as much rock as the Carpenters, maybe even more so, since they're likely more groove-oriented at times.

Do the Carpenters even have true rock songs? ABBA have quite a few among their biggest hits. For my "An Alternative to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" project on RYM, I compiled a list of ten for them, which consists only of songs I'd consider rock:

- Waterloo
- SOS
- Mamma Mia
- Dancing Queen
- Money, Money, Money
- Knowing Me, Knowing You
- Take a Chance on Me
- Does Your Mother Know
- Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)
- Super Trouper

Can the Carpenters match that?

Think I am content with your last top 110. Guess I will post the next batch inserted at some point this March.

By no means perfect (today I'd probably induct some later, some earlier) but by all means better than the actual hall.

None of his music has been well received since KSG. That's Jesus Is King (panned), Donda (polarizing, with a 53/100 on Metacritic), Donda 2 (panned), Vultures 1 (panned) and Vultures 2 (panned). I agree his previous work makes up for it compared with most, but not when he's against giants. Against Jay I guess I could see Kanye ahead, though I'd still give Jay influence and cultural impact while holding his own in the rest. Sampson convinced me.

Beyoncé over Nirvana and Pac also looks kinda wrong, both are also very culturally impactful, which is her strongest point along with her popularity (where she of course kills).

I feel like Prince's discography is considered pretty uneven as well, though.
