Oppenheimer THAT high is a little bit of a stretch to me - but if it were to be placed above Memento that means it automatically should be on the Top 500 list at this point then.

The only thing it wins is popularity, which makes it jump straight to #4 (I agree with that choice) but is also due to being a blockbuster by one of the most famous directors in the world with an all-star cast with the "Barbenheimer" marketing campaign behind, and it seems unfair to punish Memento for not being up to that standard.

Will it go up? Maybe. But maybe not. If you change the all-time list and it turns out it doesn't, it's worse that just waiting to see what its legacy is.

Also, off-topic, but at this point I wonder if you should substitute RYM with Letterboxd as a source, since the latter is way more popular and actually a movie site.

I think both are good resources. I usually take a look at a combination of RYM, Letterboxd, IMDB, and RT to determine a film's overall audience score.

I'd agree with a Smiley Face bump up. You might want to consider Emelia Perez for #1...hard to say this early though.

I'd be against having Emilia Perez at #1 at this point. A Prophet had near universal acclaim and while Emilia Perez won a ton of industry awards its reception, with audiences especially, is very mixed. I don't think an, not very significant, advantage in popularity can overcome that.

That makes sense #2 seems appropriate

A Prophet is ranked #5 for it's year, 2009. I'd rather avoid having Emilia Perez in the top 5/10 for 2024.

Plus, a top 5 film for a year in the 2000s is generally stronger in the criteria (at this point) than a top 5 film from more recent years.

Seeing some of this lists makes me think about the topic of having TV series on the directors' top 10s, because being a showrunner and a director are not the same thing, unless you happen to direct at least most episodes, like Lynch on Twin Peaks.

And honestly - Lynch didn't direct the vast majority of episodes in seasons 1 +2: so I kind of think that only "The Return" should be on his list.

I think Twin Peaks was the reason I started putting them there. A Lynch list without Twin Peaks felt somewhat off.

I'd say a series that as a whole feels like the vision of the director in question should be allowed to remain. I'm open to excluding others.
