Both true. What do others think? I'd be willing to give in in both cases (Salles and Coogler).

Keep in mind on places like letterboxd and imdb there is a fair amount of recency bias (letterboxd especially) so I'd hardly say I'm Still Here's win in lasting popularity is particularly conclusive, and after adjusting for inflation I'd give Central Station the win but I agree that its close. Obviously lasting acclaim is hard to measure for a new film but for comparison's sake, let's look at how Central Station and I'm Still Here rank for the respective years on TSPDT.pauldrach wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 4:11 amI definitely don't see that yet.ManPerson wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 4:13 pmDepending on how it does in award season, I could maybe even see Sinners at #1.
I'm fine with First Reformed > Mishima"I'm Still Here" already takes lasting popularity, also initial acclaim though that is very close. Initial popularity and influence are so close that I wouldn't want to choose a winner. Lasting acclaim can't be judged yet.ManPerson wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 4:25 pmI'm curious about I'm Still Here vs Central Station, Mishima vs First Reformed and King of Comedy vs The Irishman.
In terms of popularity, "The Irishman" clearly blows "The King of Comedy" out of the water. It grossed thrice as much despite only a limited theatrical release, and the difference on rating sites is even more profound. Initial acclaim is another obvious win for TI. TKoC may just win influence but clearly by less than TI takes popularity and initial acclaim. Lasting acclaim is the only criterion I'd say TKoC takes with relative ease but again TI already has a very respectable rank within TSPDT's all-time top 2,500, a rare feat for such a recent film.
Just got back from the theater. Top-tier PTA, without doubt.
TDoWC takes acclaim, WW takes popularity and possible influence. Popularity seems to be the most decisive win so, yeah, I'll swap.ManPerson wrote: Tue Oct 07, 2025 7:39 pmI'm curious about Decline of Western Civilization vs Wayne's World.
I'm not sure on this. Especially Zoolander has gained some lasting acclaim that Severance just can't really have yet. As close as Zoolander and TT, how about moving Severance between the two?ManPerson wrote: Tue Oct 07, 2025 7:39 pmSeverance's reputation is significantly stronger than Zoolander or Tropic Thunder's and it's pretty popular as well, so as hard as it is to compare between mediums, I'd say Severance's win in acclaim is stronger than the other two's win in popularity.
I can definitely see that though it doesn't align very well with our decade ranks, according to which at least "Duel" should be ahead of IJ&tToD.ManPerson wrote: Tue Oct 07, 2025 7:39 pmI'd probably give Temple of Doom popularity and influence over A.I. due to its significance for the creation of the PG-13 rating.
