69. The B-52's - more specifically alternative than Blondie
72. Linkin Park
73. Incubus
82. The Offspring

104. My Chemical Romance
106. Alanis Morissette

Live
Matchbox Twenty

238. The Mekons
242. Mumford & Sons
245. Imagine Dragons

105. The Roots
108. Massive Attack - same thing with the trip hop acts

Including alt hip-hop is a tricky one. If you are including rock artists that are on the alternative side, then sure, but that's not really what the Alternative Rock genre name refers to.

Funny, I was just thinking about this. I remember Sampson pushing for an inclusive list, like the one Ryan has here. Still, I think alternative hip-hop is different enough to deserve its own separate list. Grouping it with broader categories might blur the unique qualities that set it apart from alternative rock. It often has a different sound, message, and background that make it stand out on its own.

I think alt hip-hop should be removed. It's rock that is alternative, but alternative rock refers to a specific style of guitar rock that doesn't really apply to A Tribe Called Quest and others.

Same with trip hop, alt-country, etc.

Also, while Beastie Boys have a couple songs within the alt rock lane I don't think they were ever clearly an alt rock band for even one album so I'd say their inclusion is rather questionable.

I also have a second list as part of this, 100 Greatest Influences on Alternative Music, that I created because I thought David Bowie and the Velvet Underground didn't really belong on the main list but I felt like I had to mention them in some way.
