Criteria: These film editors were ranked according to their influence on cutting of films, the acclaim they received for their film editing, and, to a lesser degree, the greatness (influence, acclaim, popularity) of the films they cut.

Disclaimer: This list is strongly influenced by the Western canon of films. This means that in the broader scope of a global cinema certain regions may be underrepresented, among them Russia, India, China, Africa and Latin America.

I feel like Cecile Decugis should be higher, massive influence and a solid body of work as well.

Hah, I was thinking #30, just behind James & Rose Smith.

Moved Leo Catozzo down a bit as I am not sure if his technical innovations factor in influence criterion here. He did edit Fellini's biggest films but overall I think Mastroianni had been more prolific and acclaimed of an editor.

I could see Marguerite Bauge a bit higher due to significant influence as well. Maybe Robert Wise and Nino Baragli could be higher as well.

Edit: Perhaps some more experimental film editors could be on the list, Maya Deren, Luis Bunuel and Jean Ravel (La Jetee) come to mind.

Also Francoise Bonnot seems like she could be a bit higher.

Also, I was unsure on how to divide credit between D.W. Griffith and James & Rose Smith, maybe they should be combined?

Forgot Buster Keaton, think he might be main list-worthy here, inserted him right above René Clair for now.
