There’s 3 types of albums..

It always seemed to me theres types of albums: The Studio Albums, The Live Albums and Compilations (“Greatest Hits” and “Best Of”s”) Then there’s box sets full of unreleased alternate takes and demos. Some are album oriented some are miscellaneous. I’m wondering if there can be a section for all these individually. I know with some albums like Cream’s “Wheels Of Fire” in which it’s a mixture of both studio and live, i guess you can put them in a separate category? There could even be a movie soundtrack section. one section for various songs by various artists that were in the movie like “Saturday Night Fever” (which i call Bee Gees and Various Artists.). and another section for orchestral soundtracks like John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith..etc. I’m new here and i already have all these ideas… i’m sorry

We have lists that include both studio and live, and the a Live only list. We don't have any list for Compilation albums, which is an idea I was thinking about a couple of months ago, but then I got kinda busy with life. It's a gap here in DDD but also a big project.

I think maybe Box Set list would be interesting. I have only 2 box sets the 4 CD and Blu Ray and DVD audio super Deluxe of the Beatle "Sgt Peppe's LHCB" and Elton John's "Jewel Box". I don't think I can afford anymore box sets...at least for now But I do watch a lot unboxing and reviews on Youtube.

I've thought about doing a rock box set list, though I doubt that I'll ever actually do it. Maybe the top of the list would look something like thIs:

1. Startime - James Brown
2. They Call Me the Fat Man - Fats Domino
3. The Doo Wop Box I - Various Artists
4. Back to Mono - Phil Spector
5. The King of Rock 'n' Roll - Elvis Presley
6. The London Collection - Rolling Stones

I was thinking the boxes would be ranked partly by how important the music is and partly by whether the box in question is the best or only way to collect the music. The latter is why Elvis and the Stones are behind the other four. You can get much of what's in those two boxes on worthy albums. But there's also much you can't get that way, especially for Elvis.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons this would be tricky. Since most compilations consist on already released music, you need to judge what to include so as not to flood the list with redundant, or non essential, albums.
