It's fine, as I said I'm not that interested in that part of the list as I see many artists with too similar credentials and can't confidently have a strong opinion, so you guys go ahead. I may say something when the list is finished if a placement seems too wrong but as it is it's fine.

Rufus one of the leading funk artists of the 1970s, Chaka kept turning hits after going solo & changing her style, precursor to R&B/hip-hop crossovers everpresent since the 1990s and overall a large influence on contemporary r&b, on female vocalists especially. George responsible for one of the most acclaimed solo Beatle albums and the greatest solo Beatle hits even if the latter was a #8's rip off, Lloyd Price penned Lawdy Miss Clawdy and partly responsible for Stagger Lee becoming a rock standard, later on noted for setting his own label and publishing company and for overall acute business sense.
Laura Nyro noted writer for herself and other artists and influence on confessional singer-songwriters only surpassed by likes of Joni Mitchell & Carole King, despite her lack of commercial success I would not be too harsh in placing her. Next three are mostly here for popularity but all have classic songs to their name, Dust in the Wind, You're So Vain, Abracadabra, Carry on My Wayward Son, Nobody Does It Better, The Joker, not talking Nikola Jokic. I guess props for Kansas for their violin use in rock context, shout out to pauldrach.
Chiffons might not be leading girl group of the early 1960s, a genre's heyday before more lush and ambitious Motown-style girl groups took over but they were certainly up there, George Harrison knows. Armatrading & Rickie Lee Jones, nobody knows why they are here really, Armatrading was an influence on Tracy Chapman tbf and Rickie Lee's s/t was pretty succesful and acclaimed but.

Re: Greatest Rock Artists Of All Time (Revision Version)
Chubby Checker's placement seems a bit high. I think Usher and Chicago would take popularity and acclaim overall, while Del Shannon and Little Willie John would take acclaim and influence. I also think that it would be funny for him and Nine Inch Nails to be back to back.
Re: Greatest Rock Artists Of All Time (Revision Version)
I'd have the Steve Miller Band a couple spots higher, they take acclaim rather easily over Kansas, while the other criteria are somewhat comparable (and I think Steve Miller Band are probably a bit more popular than Kansas, if anything). When compared to Laura Nyro, acclaim seems close and while Laura Nyro takes influence I think Steve Miller Band should arguably still be ahead since their greatest hits album alone has probably sold twice as much as Laura Nyro's discography.Tim wrote: Thu Jun 18, 2026 11:20 am 1. I'd say Rickie Lee Jones is clearly more acclaimed and popular than Joan Armatrading, though I guess I'm being a bit nitpicky since neither are remotely listworthy.

Soundgarden the first grunge band to be signed to a major label, large influence on alt-metal, commercially succesful through the first half of the 1990s, Cornell one of the greatest rock vocalists, Cameron acclaimed for his drumming as well. Alanis Morissette Canadian with blockbuster album Jaded Little Pill, bringing confessional singer-songwriter style to popularity unseen since Carole King's Tapestry, wasn't able to match it's success but remained commercially succesful and well-recieved critically in her folow-up career, cited as influence by some of the top female rock stars today, No Doubt blockbuster hit in Tragic Kingdom, best selling ska punk-influenced record out there, "Don't Speak" one of the greatest hits of the 1990s despite not charting in Billboard Hot 100. Anita Baker acclaimed vocalist, large influence on quiet storm, a couple of hit albums & singles, during the 1980s especially. The Lovin' Spoonful one of the leading rock bands of mid-60s both critically and commercially, alongside Byrds and Buffalo Springfield, folk rock pioneers in the band format.
Dick Dale was a huge influence on surf rock, idolized by that crowd as well as by virtuoso guitarists, lacking in initial popularity but had a huge resurgence thanks in large part to "Misirlou" appearing in Pulp Fiction. Buckley tragic early death with only one full-fledged album but one of rock's most acclaimed vocalists since the 1990s, influence on the likes of Thom Yorke & Matt Bellamy. Blue Oyster Cult eclectic psychdelic-influenced hard rock band a couple of iconic singles, chief among them "(Don't Fear) the Reaper", large influence on heavy metal. Dead Kennedys widely considered the greatest hardcore punk, noted for fresh music sound and Jello Biafra's political & satirical lyrics, him even attempting to run for San Francisco mayor against Dianne Feinstein. Grand Funk Railroad mostly there for popularity, but to be fair, one of the most popular artists in this group bar Morissette and maybe No Doubt, used to be Homer Simpson's favorite band till he was retconned to be a grunge fan.
