I wasn't striving for perfect consistency, just to substantially move the list in that direction. "Baby One More Time" did move up over 100 positions.

Including more than one artist for certain songs wasn't my idea, but I think the idea was to rank the songs according to the greater of the two versions. I'm not sure about where the line is for how big the 2nd biggest version needs to be for inclusion in the listing, but Vanilla Fudge's "You Keep Me Hangin' On" and Phil Collins "You Can't Hurry Love" are both fairly significant versions, so I could see adding those two. I'll check with Bruce and Brett Alan and see what they think. I'll wait until tomorrow though in case someone comes up with another one as big as those two.

I'm okay with adding the second versions on those 2 songs.

Good news folks!

Brett, Brian and I are working on an expansion of this list for January. We are adding another 100 songs to take the list to 700. I have 28 things picked out from the 1940s, 50s and 60s. The other 72 songs will come from Brett Alan and Brian covering the 1970s through the 2020s.

Certainly good news!

It would also be good to change some positions to make the list more consistent overall. It's good that Brian made the list more consistent with his decade lists, but keeping the 60s and 80s songs unchanged leads to stuff like G Thang jumping over The Message, Kashmir dropping below Dazed and Confused, Sexual Healing over Let's Get It On, etc.

Think Kashmir vs Dazed and Confused is genuinely a debate but agreed on others.

I'll add Beat It vs Don't Stop Til You Get Enough as one that I'm not sure I agree with.

Black or White vs Thriller too, though I guess it was already like that before.

I'd say Kashmir takes lasting popularity and acclaim for sure.

I think Sexual Healing vs Let's Get It On is more debatable than Kashmir vs Dazed and Confused, actually.

Ain't Too Proud to Beg to Beg > Papa Was a Rolling Stone seems wrong to me as well.

That's right on the latter. "Black and White" moved down 66 positions on the update, so it isn't as far ahead of "Thriller" as it was before.

ManPerson, on another matter, I've started looking at what songs could be added when we expand to 700, including songs from the '00s, and I definitely think that "Yellow" by Coldplay is one song that should be added. However, maybe Coldplay should have 2 songs added, and if so, I'm torn between whether the 2nd one should be "Clocks" or "The Scientist". "Clocks" is higher on your '00s songs list and seems to be more acclaimed, but not by all that much, and "The Scientist" does considerably better in platinum certifications and has a lot more streams at Spotify. That's more meaningful than usual in this case since it's a comparison of 2 songs from the same year by the same artist.

I could definitely see The Scientist > Clocks, I think the next time I update the 2000s list I might move it ahead for the reasons you outline.

Yes, it does look to me like The Scientist has the advantage there.

I sent a message to Lew requesting Vanilla Fudge and Phil Collins be added on the 2 Supremes songs.
