Top 100 Albums of the Year (2010-present)

Post by Ryan »

I'll be making a list for 2024 in the new year. I'd like to see the Uproxx Critics Poll results before I finish the list.

As always, a disclosure: I vote in that Uproxx poll, which is the spiritual successor to Pazz & Jop, which I also voted in. But I am one of many writers who submit and one ballot does not sway a whole poll.

Charli XCX's Brat is probably going to be #1 on this year's list, though.

It certainly feels like the right choice for #1. 2-5 should probably Chromakopia, GNX, Hit Me Hard and Soft and Cowboy Carter in some order.

Yes, that poll has a large number of voters, so one ballot would have minimal effect.

Comparing the current lists with my attempt to balance popularity, acclaim and influence (I assume a lot of the discrepancies arise from these lists being made almost/over a decade ago)
Will do 2010-2014 for now
2010
Current List
1. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West
2. The Suburbs - Arcade Fire
3. This is Happening - LCD Soundsystem
4. Doo Wops & Hooligans - Bruno Mars
5. Brothers - The Black Keys
6. Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty - Big Boi
7. Soldier of Love - Sade
8. The ArchAndroid - Janelle Monáe
9. Contra - Vampire Weekend
10. Teenage Dream - Katy Perry
11. Thank Me Later - Drake
12. Recovery - Eminem
13. Loud - Rihanna
14. The Lady Killer - Cee-Lo Green
15. Raymond vs. Raymond - Usher
16. The Union - Elton John and Leon Russell
17. Plastic Beach - Gorillaz
18. How I Got Over - The Roots
19. Pink Friday - Nicki Minaj
20. Body Talk - Robyn
My List
1. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West
2. The Suburbs - Arcade Fire
3. Pink Friday - Nicki Minaj
4. Teenage Dream - Katy Perry
5. Doo Wops & Hooligans - Bruno Mars
6. Teen Dream - Beach House
7. This is Happening - LCD Soundsystem
8. Plastic Beach - Gorillaz
9. Brothers - The Black Keys
10. Thank Me Later - Drake
11. High Violet - The National
12. Speak Now - Taylor Swift
13. Recovery - Eminem
14. Body Talk - Robyn
15. The Archandroid - Janelle Monae
16. Contra - Vampire Weekend
17. Loud - Rihanna
18. Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites - Skrillex
19. My World 2.0 - Justin Bieber
20. Halcyon Digest - Deerhunter

Albums that I have significantly higher
Pink Friday - Solid Acclaim, very strong popularity, hugely influential on the image and sound of future female rappers (e.g. Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat). Imo it should be a lock for somewhere in the top 5
Teenage Dream - One of the most popular albums of the decade. Very similar credentials to Doo Wops & Hooligans so I figure they should be next to each other on the list
Teen Dream - Among the most acclaimed of the year with a little bit of popularity as well. I see it as having similar, if not a bit better, credentials compared to This is Happening
Plastic Beach - Very good acclaim, certified platinum, strong streaming success
High Violet - Similar to what I said for Teen Dream but a bit less acclaimed
Speak Now - I'm assuming this was omitted due to not being considered rock enough
Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites - Hugely influential on the EDM that came after, with it's use of a beat drop in particular. I'd say it should be somewhere in the top 100 at the very least
My World 2.0 - One of the most popular albums of the year. Very poor acclaim so I don't think top 20 is necessary but it should be somewhere on the top 100
Halcyon Digest - One of the most acclaimed albums of the year, without much popularity. Also fine with it not being top 20.

Albums I have significantly lower and/or didn’t list
Sir Lucious Left Foot - Very acclaimed but only 19th for the year on AcclaimedMusic and it's popularity isn't particulary strong so top 10 seems a bit high, fine with it being top 20 though.
Soldier of Love - Decently popular and acclaimed but it doesn't do well enough in either category to be top 10 or even top 20 imo.
The Lady Killer - Doesn't do particularly well in popularity or acclaim
Raymond v Raymond - Don't have too much of a problem with this being top 20, but there are more popularity and similarly acclaimed albums below it
The Union - Not much acclaim outside of making a couple of year end lists and miniscule lasting popularity, definitely not top 20 imo.
How I Got Over - Fine with this being top 20

2011
Original List
1. 21 - Adele
2. Take Care - Drake
3. Born This Way - Lady Gaga
4. Watch the Throne - Jay-Z and Kanye West
5. Bon Iver - Bon Iver
6. 4 - Beyoncé
7. Wasting Light - Foo Fighters
8. Let England Shake - PJ Harvey
9. Barton Hollow - The Civil Wars
10. 50 Words for Snow - Kate Bush
11. Talk That Talk - Rihanna
12. Undun - The Roots
13. James Blake - James Blake
14. Making Mirrors - Gotye
15. El Camino - The Black Keys
16. David Comes to Life - Fucked Up
17. W H O K I L L - tUnE-yArDs
18. Civilian - Wye Oak
19. + - Ed Sheeran
20. Helplessness Blues - Fleet Foxes
My List
1. 21 - Adele
2. Take Care - Drake
3. House of Balloons - The Weeknd
4. Watch the Throne - Jay-Z & Kanye West
5. Bon Iver, Bon Iver - Bon Iver
6. Born This Way - Lady Gaga
7. Let England Shake - PJ Harvey
8. Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming - M83
9. El Camino - The Black Keys
10. James Blake - James Blake
11. 4 - Beyonce
12. Ceremonials - Florence + the Machine
13. Wasting Light - Foo Fighters
14. Making Mirrors - Gotye
15. Strange Mercy - St. Vincent
16. Kaputt - Destroyer
17. Nostalgia, Ultra - Frank Ocean
18. LiveLoveA$AP - A$AP Rocky
19. Plus - Ed Sheeran
20. Christmas - Michael Buble

Albums I have significantly higher
House of Balloons - Unless mixtapes aren't eligible, this should be really high up there. Pioneering album for the alternative r&b genre, highly acclaimed and quite lastingly popular over the years as well.
Hurry Up, We're Dreaming - Among the more acclaimed albums of the year and very popular on top of that.
Ceremonials - Strong popularity and acclaim. This is in the top 100 of the 2010s list so I assume you agree with moving it up
Strange Mercy - Among the most acclaimed albums of the year
Kaputt - Ditto
Nostalgia, Ultra - Like House of Balloons, not sure if it's eligible, but it's also influential on alternative r&b and highly acclaimed. Very limited lasting popularity due to not being on streaming so I can definitely see the rationale for it not being top 20
LiveLoveA$AP - Again, not sure if eligible, but influential on cloud rap with solid acclaim and popularity
Christmas - Among the most popular albums of the year, fairly similar credentials to Plus.

Albums I have significantly lower and/or didn’t list
Barton Hollow - Not much lasting acclaim and some popularity but not enough to be top 20
50 Words for Snow - Not much popularity and some acclaim but not enough to be top 20
Talk that Talk - Very popular with mediocre acclaim, fine with it in the top 20 but not close to the top 10
Undun - Only an honorable mention on AcclaimedMusic and didn’t sell that much, but its acclaim within hip hop circles is very strong so I can understand it being top 20.
David Comes To Life - Acclaimed but there are albums that are below it with stronger acclaim and popularity and albums that excel in popularity more than this excels in acclaim
W h o k i l l - Fine with this being top 20
Civilian - Some popularity and acclaim but not an overwhelming amount of either
Helplessness Blues - Probably would be #21 or 22 for me so no problem with this being in the top 20.

2012
Original List
1. good kid, M.A.A.D. city - Kendrick Lamar
2. Channel Orange - Frank Ocean
3. Babel - Mumford & Sons
4. Red - Taylor Swift
5. Some Nights - fun.
6. The Idler Wheel - Fiona Apple
7. Unorthodox Jukebox - Bruno Mars
8. Wrecking Ball - Bruce Springsteen
9. Blunderbuss - Jack White
10. The Heist - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
11. R.A.P. Music - Killer Mike
12. Kaleidoscope Dream - Miguel
13. Night Visions - Imagine Dragons
14. Life is Good - Nas

19. The Truth About Love - Pink
20. Tempest - Bob Dylan
My List
1. Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City - Kendrick Lamar
2. Channel Orange - Frank Ocean
3. Born To Die - Lana Del Rey
4. Red - Taylor Swift
5. Lonerism - Tame Impala
6. An Awesome Wave - Alt-J
7. Visions - Grimes
8. Kaleidoscope Dream - Miguel
9. The Heist - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
10. Babel - Mumford & Sons
11. Night Visions - Imagine Dragons
12. Unorthodox Jukebox - Bruno Mars
13. The Idler Wheel - Fiona Apple
14. Bloom - Beach House
15. Blunderbuss - Jack White
16. Take Me Home - One Direction
17. The Truth About Love - P!nk
18. Some Nights - Fun
19. 18 Months - Calvin Harris
20. Unapologetic - Rihanna

Albums I have significantly higher
Born To Die - Huge seller and streaming numbers to this day, strong lasting acclaim and pioneering album for the alt-pop genre. Since it’s on the decade list I assume you’d agree with moving it up, even if not as high as I have it.
Lonerism - One of the most acclaimed albums of the year with good lasting popularity
An Awesome Wave - Highly acclaimed, platinum selling and strong lasting popularity.
Visions - Similar to what I said for Lonerism
Bloom - Highly acclaimed with pretty good popularity
Take Me Home - One of the most popular albums of the year, similar credentials to the fun. and p!nk albums

Albums I have significantly lower and/or didn’t list
Babel - Really strong initial popularity with decent acclaim but its importance definitely seems to have waned over the years. The Heist is more popular with similar acclaim so I figure they should be right next to each other.
Some Nights - Popular with pretty unremarkable acclaim. Since Night Visions and Unorthodox Jukebox were more popular, I figure they should be a few spots ahead of it.
Wrecking Ball - An album by a legacy act that had strong sales in the first few weeks and made a couple of year end lists but hasn’t lasted far beyond that. Almost certainly worthy of the top 40-50 but top 10 is definitely pushing it.
R.A.P. Music - Fine with this being on the list.
Life is Good - Decent acclaim and sales but not particularly great in either category.
R.E.D. - Not even certified by the RIAA and not very acclaimed either
The 2nd Law - Similar to the Nas album except its reviews were a lot more divisive
Tempest - Similar to the Springsteen album

2013
Original List
1. Random Access Memories - Daft Punk
2. The 20/20 Experience - Justin Timberlake
3. Yeezus - Kanye West

20. Reflektor - Arcade Fire
My List
1. Beyonce - Beyonce
2. Yeezus - Kanye West

16. Days Are Gone - HAIM
17. Prism - Katy Perry
18. Midnight Memories - One Direction
19. Overgrown - James Blake
20. Push the Sky Away - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Albums I have significantly higher

Beyonce - Top 5 in acclaim and popularity for the year, and very influential on music distribution going forward
Trouble Will Find Me - One of the more acclaimed albums of the year and probably the group’s most popular album.
Frozen - Unless it’s excluded due to its genre, being one of the most popular albums of the decade should guarantee it a spot in the top 20.
Acid Rap - Assuming it isn’t here due to being a mixtape
Long.Live.A$AP - Pretty good acclaim and one of the higher selling albums of the year
Days Are Gone - On the decade list so I assume it was going to get moved up at some point anyway
Prism - One of the most popular albums of the year
Midnight Memories - Ditto
Push the Sky Away - One of the most acclaimed of the year, very surprised it isn’t anywhere in the top 100

Albums I have significantly lower and/or didn’t list
The 20/20 Experience - One of the most popular albums of the year at the time and fairly acclaimed but it declined in both criteria quite a bit over the years.
The Next Day - Good acclaim but mediocre popularity.
MBV - Highly acclaimed but very low sales and streams for an album in the top 10
Hesitation Marks - Some acclaim and popularity but not much of either and it’s generally considered to be a mid-tier NIN album.
Run the Jewels - Acclaimed, but not nearly as acclaimed as RTJ2 and 4. Fine with this being somewhere in the top 20 though.
The Electric Lady - Good acclaim and decent popularity but not quite top 20 level, imo.
Old - Ditto
Like Clockwork - Would probably be my #21.
Ciara - Pretty good popularity and decent acclaim but definitely not top 20 worthy
Reflektor - Would probably be somewhere in my top 25-30 but it’s definitely declined in acclaim and popularity over the years.

3. Black Messiah - D’angelo & the Vanguard
4. Lost in the Dream - The War On Drugs
5. Run the Jewels 2 - Run the Jewels
6. LP1 - FKA Twigs
7. In the Lonely Hour - Sam Smith
8. Ultraviolence - Lana Del Rey
9. Hozier - Hozier
10. Salad Days - Mac DeMarco

13. St. Vincent - St. Vincent
14. Are We There - Sharon Van Etten
15. Burn Your Fire for No Witness - Angel Olsen
16. My Everything - Ariana Grande
17. 1000 Forms of Fear - Sia
18. Morning Phase - Beck
19. Oxymoron - Schoolboy Q
20. V - Maroon 5

Albums I have significantly higher
Multiply - One of the most popular albums of the decade with decent acclaim as well so in a fairly weak year it should definitely be somewhere in the top 5
LP1 - One of the most acclaimed albums of the year with decent popularity
Ultraviolence - Strong popularity and acclaim
Hozier - One of the most popular albums of the year with decent acclaim
Salad Days - Similar to Ultraviolence but somewhat less popular
The Pinkprint - On the decade list so I assume it was probably getting moved up anyway
Are We There - One of the most acclaimed of the year with decent lasting popularity
My Everything - One of the most popular albums of the year
V - Ditto

Albums I have significantly lower and/or didn’t list
Morning Phase - Good acclaim with decent popularity but outside of the (fairly divisive) Grammy win, not that strong in either
Lazaretto - Decent acclaim and popularity but not particularly strong in either category
High Hopes - Similar to the other Springsteen album from 2 years before but with even less lasting popularity and acclaim
Benji - Don’t have too much of a problem with it being top 20 but it’s very lacking in popularity.
To Be Kind - Ditto
Sonic Highways - Similar to the NIN album from the year before
Hypnotic Eye - Refer to what I said about the Springsteen album from 2 years before
The Outsiders - Fine with this being on the list and Chief could be on the 2011 list as well
Transgender Dysphoria Blues - Similar to what I said for Benji and To Be Kind
Atlas - Fine with this being top 20, but there are definitely albums below it that are quite a bit more popular/acclaimed and not far behind in the other criteria

Unless we are making lists for mixtapes, EPs, compilations and all that, I believe they shouldn't be excluded from this lists. Also I believe Ryan was going to make the lists all-genre, so I'd expect albums by Kamasi Washington, Rosalia, Michael Buble as you pointed out, should be included.

Why? Does it have any influence or acclaim?

Well, at most 5-10 albums in a given year from the 2010s are going to have any notable influence at this point. When you look at the albums I have near Frozen on my 2013 ranking for example, the only one that has much of an argument for being particularly influential is Acid Rap.

In terms of acclaim, while it's true that it doesn't have much of it, albums that are some of the most acclaimed of the decade while having fairly
unimpressive acclaim, such as Let England Shake or Ghosteen, certainly have no trouble ranking in the top 20 and even top 10 on their respective lists so albums that are some of the most popular of the decade with unimpressive acclaim should rank high as well. And some of them (e.g. Night Visions, Unorthodox Jukebox, Plus) already do.

Well, both albums you call unimpressively popular charted in many countries, in the top 10 in many cases, and have certified sales of tens of thousands. Frozen is not on AM, wasn't probably on any year-end list, and the only sites I find that reviewed it (which are few) call it mid. There reaaaaaaally is a different measuring stick for both criterions.

The Frozen soundtrack did win a Grammy, but I can see your point as, unlike say an Imagine Dragons or Katy Perry it not only got fairly mixed reviews, it barely got any reviews at all.

Still, the fact that it sold as well as it did, should definitely put it somewhere pretty high on the list, even if not as high as I had it.

Under most circumstances, compilations are excluded from these lists. Mixtapes, EPs, and live albums are not.

It is correct that these lists are all-genre.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know when I'll get around to revising these, but I'll keep all this in mind when I do. These lists were made immediately after the year finished, for the most part, so they have a lot of stuff that was popular at the time but has not held up in the long run. Not saying any album will fall from the Top 20 off the list entirely, but I certainly will revise all of these eventually to include albums that do better in the criteria now.

A good example of this is Barton Hollow by The Civil Wars. In 2011, that really was one of the most acclaimed albums of the year and made the best-of lists of Allmusic, Time, The AP, Paste, and NPR, it won two Grammys, and it went Gold. It made sense at the time to put that in the top 10. But then the Civil Wars just kind of fizzled out. They put out one more album and then broke up, and now it seems they're somewhat forgotten. That album will still be on the list, that acclaim didn't go away and it's still one of the big albums of 2011, but I probably wouldn't have it in the Top 10 anymore. Maybe Top 20.

5. Purpose - Justin Bieber
6. DS2 - Future
7. Carrie & Lowell - Sufjan Stevens

16. Barter 6 - Young Thug
17. Rodeo - Travis Scott
18. Trapsoul - Bryson Tiller
19. Summertime ‘06 - Vince Staples
20. I Love You, Honeybear - Father John Misty

Albums I have significantly higher:
Currents: One of the most acclaimed of the year and its streaming numbers are very high as well.
Purpose: One of the most popular albums of the year with decent acclaim and it was very influential on the tropical house and future bass influenced pop music of the next few years.
DS2: Very popular and acclaimed, very influential on a style that would be very prevalent in the back half of the decade.
If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late: Highly popular with solid acclaim to boot as well
Barter 6: Good acclaim and decent popularity, highly influential on trap music that came afterwards.
Rodeo: Very popular with decent acclaim, some influence on trap music though not quite
as much as DS2 or Barter 6
Trapsoul: Highly popular and was fairly influential on alternative r&b

Albums I have significantly lower:
Art Angels: Acclaimed with some popularity but In Colour and Emotion have similar acclaim and are more popular.
Sound and Color: Would be in my top 25, so I can see it being in the top 20 but isn’t top tier for either popularity or acclaim and doesn’t have much influence so I can’t see it being top 10.
B’lieve I’m Goin Down: Good acclaim and decent popularity but there are more acclaimed with similar and in some cases more popularity below it.
Wildheart: Fine with this being top 20
Vulnicura: Low popularity for a top 20 album but mostly fine with its placement.
Coming Home: Fine with this being top 20
I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside: Similar to what I said with the Kurt Vile album
Something More Than Free: Ditto
No Cities To Love: Acclaimed but has very low lasting popularity for a top 20 contender

19. 22, a Million - Bon Iver
20. I like it when you sleep, for you are beautiful yet so unaware of it - The 1975

Albums I have significantly higher:
Blonde: Possibly the most acclaimed album of the year, with far stronger streaming success than most of the other highly acclaimed albums from 2016. This should at least be #2, but I could see Lemonade ahead due to its clear advantage in initial success and acclaim.
Views: One of the most popular of the year and its exclusive initial release on Apple Music was important to the growth of streaming services (for better or worse).
Dangerous Woman: Highly popular with decent acclaim as well.
Awaken, My Love: Strong acclaim and popularity.
24k Magic: Since this is on the decade list I assume this was getting moved up anyway
Stoney: One of the highest selling and most streamed albums of the year.
Puberty 2: Highly acclaimed and fairly popular as well
That 1975 album with the long title: Similar to the Childish Gambino album but it’s somewhat less popular

Albums I have significantly lower
We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service: One of the most acclaimed of the year with decent popularity but doesn’t have enough of either to be top 5 in a year as strong as this one.
22, a Million: Strong acclaim and decent popularity, but there are similarly acclaimed (and in some cases more acclaimed) albums that are more popular and some of the most popular albums of the year with decent acclaim as well below it.
You Want It Darker: Almost had this in my top 20 but doesn’t have enough popularity to be close to the top 10 in such a strong year
Teens of Denial: Ditto
A Sailor’s Guide to Earth: Good acclaim with some popularity as well but doesn’t do exceptionally in either category. Mostly fine with this being top 20 though.
This Is Acting: Fine with this being top 20, but albums such as Dangerous Woman and Stoney should be ahead of it.
My Woman: Fine with this being top 20
American Band: Not much lasting acclaim or popularity
Freetown Sound: Good acclaim and some popularity (with fairly lackluster chart positions though), but not enough of either to be top 20 level.

Albums I have significantly higher
Flower Boy - One of the more acclaimed and popular albums of the year
Culture - Good acclaim and popularity
American Teen - One of the most popular albums of the year with decent acclaim as well
Luv is Rage 2 - Ditto
After Laughter - Good acclaim and popularity
Arca - One of the most acclaimed albums of the year with low popularity so certainly doesn’t need to be top 20 but should be somewhere on the list for sure
This One’s for You - One of the best selling albums of the year
The Greatest Showman - Ditto

Albums I have significantly lower
A Crow Looked At Me - One of the most acclaimed of the year but it didn’t even chart in the US or UK so as wrong as it feels to move this down I think top 5 is definitely too high, objectively speaking.
Big FIsh Theory - Highly acclaimed with some popularity, it seems to have similar credentials to The War On Drugs and St. Vincent albums so I’d say it should be in that part of the list.
Lust for Life - Decent acclaim with good popularity and I’m fine with it being top 20 but is generally considered a mid-tier Lana album
Rainbow - Hasn’t had that much lasting acclaim or popularity but I’m okay with it being top 20.
Utopia - Not nearly as acclaimed as some of Bjork’s other albums and not very popular either.
Take Me Apart - Highly acclaimed but not very popular
Pure Comedy - Ditto
American Dream - Fine with this being top 20.

17. Die Lit - Playboi Carti
18. Goodbye & Good Riddance - Juicewrld
19. ? - XXXTentacion
20. Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides - SOPHIE

Albums I have significantly higher
Invasion of Privacy: Among the most popular and acclaimed albums of the year and helped open doors for female rappers that would break through in the next few years
Astroworld: One of the most popular albums of the year with good acclaim as well. It has similar acclaim to Sweetener while being more popular by a decent amount so I had it ahead.
El Mal Querer: One of the most acclaimed of the year with decent popularity, and had some importance in increasing interest in Spanish music.
Isolation: Solid acclaim and popularity
Scorpion: One of the more popular albums of the decade with decent acclaim as well.
Beerbongs & Bentleys: Ditto
X100 pre: One of the most streamed albums of the year with good acclaim as well. Similar credentials to the Black Panther soundtrack.
Swimming: Highly popular with decent acclaim as well
Vibras & Die Lit: Ditto
Goodbye & Good Riddance: One of the most popular albums of the decade
?: Ditto

Albums I have significantly lower
Dirty Computer: One of the most acclaimed of the year but it hasn’t had the lasting popularity of similarly acclaimed albums such as Be the Cowboy and Golden Hour.
A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships: Good acclaim and decent popularity but top 10 seems like a stretch. Fine with it being top 20 though.
A Star Is Born: Fine with this being top 20.
Room 25: One of the more acclaimed albums of the year but with fairly limited popularity that almost being in the top 10 seems like a stretch. Fine with this being top 20, though, and I’d say it should be close to the SOPHIE album since they have similar credentials.
Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino: Fine with this being top 20
Lush: Acclaimed but not necessarily top tier for the year in that category and it has limited popularity as well, not even charting in the US or UK
Everything Is Love: Doesn’t do particularly well in popularity or acclaim, especially as time has gone on.
Wide Awake: Does a bit better in popularity and acclaim than the Snail Mail album but I left it off the top 20 for a lot of the same reasons.
FM!: Quite a bit less acclaimed and popular than his previous two albums
Historian: Decent acclaim and popularity but doesn’t particularly excel in either
Love Yourself: Tear: Highly popular but not particularly acclaimed and there are albums that have a pretty strong advantage in popularity below it on the list.

Albums I have significantly higher
Igor - One of the most acclaimed albums of the year and highly popular as well
Hollywood’s Bleeding - One of the most popular albums of the decade
Remind Me Tomorrow - One of the most acclaimed albums of the year with some popularity as well
Oasis - Good popularity with decent acclaim
So Much Fun - Ditto
What You See is What You Get - One of the best selling albums of the year

Albums I have significantly lower
Father of the Bride - Good acclaim and decent popularity but that popularity has clearly not lasted since it came out. Fine with it being top 10 but top 5 definitely seems too high.
Fear Inoculum - Similar to Father of the Bride but it’s less acclaimed.
7 - Good popularity (though that popularity has definitely declined in the years since) but with very mediocre critical reception. Fine with it being in the 16-20 range but it shouldn’t be particularly close to the top 10.
Western Stars - I left it off my top 20 for similar reasons to the other Springsteen albums from this decade.
I,I - Quite a bit less acclaimed and popular than his previous efforts. Something like So Much Fun easily takes popularity while not being that far behind in acclaim.
Anima - Has fairly similar credentials to the Bon Iver album. It isn’t particularly popular and while it has strong acclaim it isn’t one of the most acclaimed of the year either.
On the Line - Not much popularity and only an honorable mention on AcclaimedMusic

Re: Top 100 Albums of the Year (2010-present)

Post by ManPerson »

These updates look really good.

Some suggestions
- I'd argue Man On the Moon II should stay in the top 100 for 2010, it's retained a good bit of lasting popularity and its reputation these days isn't bad either.
- Nothing But the Beat should probably be somewhere on the 2011 list. Over 5 billion streams on Spotify and was pretty important for the EDM boom of the next few years.
- The other 2 albums in The Weeknd's trilogy should probably somewhere on the 2011 list, though obviously not nearly as high as HoB.
- A bit of RYMy pick but I could definitely see Minecraft: Volume Alpha on the 2011 list, considering its popularity in recent years.
