Maybe Meat Loaf could be added to the list of contenders.

I'd say Motorhead beats Husker Du in both influence and popularity.

I think the bands Husker Du influenced were more important than the bands Motorhead influenced, even if Motorhead's more important to metal than Husker Du were to alt-rock. I could see Motorhead over Future though, at least.

With this many candidates I can see us going to 300 at least, maybe even 450-500.

Motorhead is one of those bands whose impact extends to every artist that followed from their style. They were precursors of the NWOBHM, of punk and metal crossovers, and essentially they made metal faster and heavier, which later led to thrash and everything else. You could make the case for them being the most influential metal band after Sabbath.

Edit: I could also see Massive Attack over Browne

I think Taylor and Steely Dan only have popularity over Hayes. Ice Cube above Chicago is underrating them too much, they destroy him in popularity and beat him in musical impact. Motörhead are more popular and acclaimed than Bambaataa and more influential and acclaimed than Def Leppard. It's also wrong to have RATM over them but I guess critical acclaim would put them ahead. I don't really mind how the 250+ part of the list is ordered.

And how are we getting to the Marvelettes before the Ronettes?

I am going with Chris F.'s order from highest to lowest, in groups of 10, of course that does not mean we have to follow it as well when it comes to our list. For what it's worth, Samp's 1960s list also has Marvelettes ahead but neither of these lists factor in critical acclaim.
